Our Breakfast Briefing with Michael Carrington, Head of Children’s Content, ABC and Screen Producers Australia CEO, Matthew Deaner in Sydney will be streamed.

Carrington has had a wealth of international knowledge and experience in content development, production and broadcasting during the 25 years of his media career. He has worked for BBC, Discovery Channel, LEGO TV & Film, Cartoon Network, HIT Entertainment, and Zodiak Media on award winning programmes including Charlie & Lola,Shaun the SheepLazyTown and Double Dare. He currently works as ABC Content Executive, steering the overall children’s commissioning strategy, as well as overseeing ABC children’s production hubs.

Carrington will discuss the current landscape of children's television in Australia, the importance of the #SaveKidsTV campaign to protect the children’s television industry, and what the ABC is looking to commission in children's entertainment.

SPEAKERS

Notching up more than 25 years in his media career, Michael Carrington has a wealth of international knowledge and experience in content development, production, and broadcasting. He returned to Australia in 2016 having spent twenty-six years abroad working in various capacities for the BBC, Discovery Channel, LEGO TV & Film, Cartoon Network, HIT Entertainment, and Zodiak Media.  Michael started in production at Channel 10 working on children’s series Ridgey Didge and Double Dare.  He has a passion for children’s content and is best known for award winning programmes like Charlie & Lola, LazyTown, Shaun the Sheep and The Amazing World of Gumball.  As head of department, Michael sits on the ABC Content Executive, steering the overall children’s commissioning strategy, as well as overseeing internal development, and ABC children’s production hubs in Melbourne and Sydney. Michael is a regular face at major content markets such as MIPTV, MipJunior, and KidScreen, as well as more intimate events such as the Asian Animation Summit, Global Children’s Media Conference, and Screen Forever.  Michael is a member of AACTA, BAFTA, RTS, and the International Academy of Arts & Sciences.

Matthew Deaner is our Chief Executive Officer. Matthew sits across all aspects of Screen Producers Australia's advocacy work, industrial negotiations, events and operational issues. He also works closely with our Council to set the strategic direction of the organisation as well as identify and execute new business development opportunities.
