SPA Honours Australian TV Industry Trailblazer David Lyle
The international broadcasting industry has lost one of its most dynamic and influential executives with the passing of David Lyle.
Screen Producers Australia CEO Matt Deaner has commended the life and career of the Australian executive that was a true force in the progression of the television industry at the highest levels and an unswerving advocate for the talent, both creative and executive, that continues to emerge from Australia.
“David Lyle was a true champion of the creative development of the television industry and independent producers from the start of his career in Australia. This core passion was reflected in his international success and will serve as one of his key legacies. As FremantleMedia’s breakthrough executive in the US market, he took his innate maverick charm through to every level of his sterling ascension through the international broadcasting ranks.”
“He was not only at the forefront on content development, but a tireless advocate for the issues affecting the industry globally in his devoted work with trade associations NPACT and PactUS and industry advocacy for the format sector as co-founder of FRAPA,” Deaner said.
Lyle began his career in front of the camera on Australian networks moving swiftly to senior executive roles at the ABC, the Ten and Nine Networks. His international career took shape in the UK with Pearsons and subsequently FremantleMedia, where he took the opportunity to expand FremantleMedia into the US with flag ship franchise American Idol. He was also president of the 20th Century Fox-owned Fox Reality Channel, led Fox Look and was CEO of the National Geographic Channels business.
“The Australian screen industry is lucky to be able to name David Lyle as one of its own and Screen Producers Australia honours his outstanding work in helping put Australian industry voices into the global arena and setting the template for how to forge new paths internationally as a highly respected trailblazer and gentleman.”
Screen Producers Australia extends its condolences to David Lyle’s family, friends and industry colleagues.
